Now in her 22nd year of teaching, Martt Lawrence has spent two decades working with dancers, athletes, and students of varying injuries. Her experience working with special conditions such as scoliosis, pregnancy, postpartum women, hip replacements, and osteoporosis, which has made her a sought-after specialist in her field.
Martt opened The Pilates Center of San Francisco in January 2006. Originally certified in 1996, Martt was re-certified in December of 2005 by Romana's Pilates ™ under the tutelage of Master Teacher Dorothee VandeWalle at Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle. In addition to her extensive study with Dorothee, she has had the fortune to study with Master Teachers Jay Grimes, Peter Fiasca, and Kathy Ross-Nash, all of who have been guest teachers at her studio. Prior to opening the Pilates Center of San Francisco, Martt was the Pilates Instructor at The San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Ballet School and has spent time teaching at Element Pilates studio in Paris, France. She draws from her experience as a former professional dancer with the Houston and Cincinnati Ballet companies as well as a modern dancer and choreographer.
Martt has been mentoring apprentices for certification in conjunction with Metropolitan Pilates since 2008. Since completing her Teacher Trainer Level 2 in May 2015, she now presents both the Basic and Intermediate Seminar at PCSF bi-annually was a presenter at the Metropolitan Pilates Continuing Eduction Seminar in November 2016. In her spare time, Martt keeps herself occupied with keeping up her French studies, yoga, writing, swimming, and hiking.
