Now in her 17th year of teaching, Martt has spent over a decade working with dancers, athletes, and students of varying injuries. Her experience working with special conditions such as pregnancy, postpartum women, hip replacements, osteoporosis, and scoliosis has made her a sought after specialist in her field.

Martt opened The Pilates Center of San Francisco in January 2006. Originally certified in 1996 by Carol Apel, Martt was re-certified in December of 2005 by Romana's Pilates ™ under the tutelage of  Master Teacher Dorothee VandeWalle at Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle.  In addition to her extensive study with Dorothee, she has had the fortune to study with  Master Teachers Jay Grimes, Peter Fiasca, and Kathy Ross-Nash, all of who have been guest teachers at her studio. Prior to opening the Pilates Center of San Francisco, Martt was the Pilates instructor at The San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Ballet School for five years. She draws from her experience as a former professional dancer with the Houston and Cincinnati Ballet companies as well as a modern dancer and choreographer.  Martt has been mentoring apprentices for certification with Metropolitan Pilates since 2008 and completed her Teacher-Trainer Level 1 Certification in March 2012. She presents the Basic Seminar at PCSF bi-annually in March and September every year.

Robin’s personal mission, both as a Pilates instructor and a physical therapist assistant, is to share the exciting moments of strength and discovery with everyone she teaches.  Her own personal, physical and spiritual development was so deeply affected by her practice of Pilates that she was inspired to leave a career in marketing to become a teacher. After experiencing painful symptoms of a physical illness and a sedentary lifestyle, she sought exercise that was flexible with the day to day needs of her body. By combining her knowledge of Pilates and physical therapy, she has been able to empower people of various fitness levels and physical abilities.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Carro studied at the Royal Swedish Ballet School from the age of ten until graduation. She was certified by Pilates Scandinavia in 2007. With a growing passion for Pilates she felt like it was time to explore the “authentic method”. She moved to New York City 2008 and earned a certificate at re:AB Pilates by Brooke Siler, where she later on became a senior teacher and Program director of re:AB Pilates certification program.
Carro believes in challenging sessions, kept in a safe and realistic frame. She encourages her students to achieve their goals; both inside and outside of the studio. She loves coaching in a positive spirit, and thrives for her clients to see and feel the results presented from the authentic Pilates method.

Jessica comes to The Pilates Center of San Francisco from Baltimore, MD where she taught dance and Pilates at Goucher College, The Peabody Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University and the Maryland School of Ballet and Modern Dance.  She was certified in 2004 after a rigorous apprenticeship under master Pilates instructors Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia-Santo where she learned to work with all different body types and abilities. Having performed with several companies on the east coast, Jessica moved to San Francisco to continue her dance career.

Helena BireCKI, INSTRUCTOR

Helena has taught Pilates in the Bay Area at both hospitals and studios since 2000, and at the Pilates Center of San Francisco since 2006. Originally certified by Stott Pilates, she also carries a Pilates Method Alliance Gold Certification. Her classical training comes from Kathryn Ross-Nash, Peter Fiasca, Dorothee VandeWalle and Martt Lawrence. 

She has acquired her skills from first generation students of Joseph Pilates as well as kinesiology experts. Employing a keen understanding of the body and an intuitive, imagery-based approach to teaching, Helena uses the Pilates exercises as keys to unlock long-lasting improvements in physical well-being. She teaches simple exercises to create deep strength, and is delighted when students surprise themselves with their progress.

BRIANA RATTERMAN TREVITHICK, INSTRUCTOR

Briana first discovered Pilates Mat work while training in the performing arts in Baltimore, MD in 1997. She found that it immediately enhanced her presence, strength, coordination, and body-awareness. But it wasn't until she took her first Reformer session that she truly became smitten!  She decided to take her love one giant step further and train to be a teacher.  She was mentored by Martt Lawrence here at PCSF and certified under the master tutelage of Dorothee VandenWalle at the acclaimed Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle, WA.  

Briana believes that when we are mindfully connected to healthy and energetic bodies, we are able to live our complex lives more fully. In carefully thought out, personalized sessions, Briana compassionately cues clients to find strength in their center through precise, controlled movements and, just as importantly, to have fun!
