• Balanced Muscular Development
• Flexibility
• Core Strength
• Postural Awareness
• Overall Fitness
• Lasting Results
OUR MISSION
Pilates Center of San Francisco is dedicated to preserving Joseph Pilates’ innovative work. Instructors are part of a direct lineage of teachers taught by Joseph Pilates, training 600+ hours to earn their certification. Manufactured by Gratz, the equipment we use was built from the original design specifications and mechanics of Joseph Pilates.
Instructors teach all sessions with a rhythm, pace and flow. While focusing on core strength and posture strength, teachers identify and correct bad habits and misalignments. We create a fun exercise experience that provides you with the ability to transform your body. Sessions include mat work (floor exercises), a reformer series, and selected movements using other apparatus.
Longer, Leaner, Taller. The Pilates Center of San Francisco
WELCOME!
We are a professional Pilates training facility that offers private and semi-private instruction on equipment and small group mat classes for adults and teens. We are also a satellite training program for teachers certifying with Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle.
Located inside the beautiful ODC Dance Commons, The Pilates Center of San Francisco (PCSF) opened in January of 2006. PCSF serves the Mission community at large with its diverse population of dancers, art lovers, and families.
Now entering its fourth year, PCSF is a strong presence for classical Pilates in San Francisco. Comprised of an active team of instructors, our training is uniform but our backgrounds are diverse, ensuring that you will find an instructor that suits you. In addition to training with us, we invite you to attend our workshops, study with visiting Master teachers and participate in collaborative events with ODC School.
New to Pilates?
What is Pilates? Developed in Germany in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, the method focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and are essential to providing support for the spine. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath as well as alignment of the spine, legs, and feet. As a system, it aims to strengthen the deep torso muscles.
How does Pilates work? Pilates is a system of exercises done either on the floor (the Mat) or on Pilates equipment. The equipment uses spring tension as resistance. This is different from other exercise forms, such as free weights, because it lengthens the muscles as it strengthens them. This creates a longer, leaner look.
